    Integration of University of Alabama
    The University of Alabama was ordered to have two African Americans attended their school for the summer session. There was a dispute between the federal authorities and Governor George Wallace about the integration. Governor Wallace didn't want these two people attending the school so he tried blocking the school.
  • March on Washington

    March on Washington
    A huge march was organized in Washington, D.C. to gain public support for the civil rights movement. More than 200,000 blacks and whites gathered at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. for the march. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke at the march with his famous "I Have A Dream" speech.

    Assassination of JFK
    President Kennedy was visiting Dallas, Texas with his wife. While driving around in an open converable car JFK was shot in the neck by Lee Harvey Oswald. He was then later taken to the local hospital and died at 1:00 pm.

    This was a cultural detached movement. Young people Broke away from the normal life style and dressed differently. They are completely against war. At this time drugs are used and became a major problem.

    Apollo 11 was the first spaceflight that landed humans on the Moon. Americans Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon together. Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon.

    This was when a simple game of ping pong broke the ice between America and China. This was the first time an American was aloud into China since the 1940s.

    A couple People were arrested for breaking into the Democratic National Committee. They were apparently taking pictures of federal documents. It was later found out that President Nixon was a key member of the scandel. He then resigned from office.

    Hurricane Carmen Hits the U.S.
    Hurricane Carmen was the most intense tropical cyclone of the 1974 Atlantic hurricane season. It started to form in Africa but then moved to the U.S. boarders. It hit Alabama with 13 inches of water in a day. It overall caused major destruction.

    Apple's core product lines are the iPhone smart phone, iPad tablet computer, iPod portable media players, and Macintosh computer line. Founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak created Apple Computer. The first to invest in their stocks made a lot of money.

    One night in New York John Lennon was shot in front of his apartment building. He was taken to Roosevelt hospital in a squad car. When they opened his chest to do a manual heart massage he was pronounced died.

    By the end of the hippie movement it was discovered that many people had gotten AIDs. It was known to be caused by people sharing drug needles.
