    The Supreme Court case, which overturned Plessy v. Ferguson. It ruled for integration of African Americans into the White education system. This was due to the fact that the separate but equal was not actually equal and many white schools were better and thus received better education.

    A competition between the U.S. and the Soviet Union, for dominance in space-flight capability. The Soviet Union were the first with a successful launch with Sputnik while the U.S. had the first moon landing. This competition heavily increased spending and research in space flight programs.

    After the ruling of Board of Education, a group of 9 African Americans students enrolled in Little Rock Central High School in Arkansas. They faced resistance by Governor Faubus who denied them the entry into the high school. The issue was later resolved by President Eisenhower.

    A scandal in which 5 burglars were arrested for wiretapping the Watergate hotel. This was the hotel where the Democratic party were suppose to discuss presidential campaign details. it was later uncovered that this group was associated with President Nixon, this caused public distrust in the government, and Nixon was impeached and later resigned from office

    A Supreme Court case which ruled that gave women the right for a legal abortion.This was a landmark decision as it gave women their right to privacy and allowed for them to have control over their bodies. It also allowed for safer abortion procedure which was a huge risk to getting abortion in secret prior to this ruling.
