Eggnog
4 residents of a nursing home died and 120 residents and staff members became ill as a result of food poisioning cause by eggnog served Christmas Eve. Reports says they ingested salmonella from the raw eggs used to make the eggnog.

Jalisco Cheese
Over the course of six months in 1985, a listeriosis outbreak affected residents of Los Angeles and Orange counties, killing as many as 40 people (10 which were infants). A Mexican-style soft cheese produced by Jalisco Cheese is the cause of the outbreak.

Frozen Strawberries
In Calhoun County, Michigan, cases of Hepatitis A led to the recall of more than a million pounds of frozen strawberries.The strawberries had been purchased by the U.S.D.A. for a federal school lunch program, and had been sent to schools in six states. The contaminated strawberries originated from Mexico, then moved onto California where they were processed and shipped. In response, thousands of school children were immunized against hepatitis A.

E. Coli at Sizzler
In July of 2000, over 60 cases of E. coli were linked to Sizzler restaurants in Wisconsin. The outbreak also claimed the life of a 3-year-old girl who died from complications of hemolytic uremic syndrome, a disease caused by the E. coli infection. An investigation found that the main cause of the outbreak was cross-contamination between the meat processing area and the ready-to-eat food preparation area.

Deli Meats
In 2002 listeria was found in deli meat that killed 8 people, nfected 54, and three pregnant women had fetal deaths. Two processing plants recalled three million pounds of meat following the outbreak.

Pre sliced roma tomatoes purchased at deli counters in Sheetz Gas Stations infected 429 people and hospitalized 129 in the summer of 2004.

In the summer of 2006, more than 230 people became infected with E. Coli from spinach grown on a California field. 5 people died and 103 were hospitalized.

Peppers
Between April and August 2008, 1442 people in 43 states were infected with salmonella form Mexico-grown jalapeno and serrano peppers. At least 300 people were hospitalized and may have contributed to two deaths.

In the summer of 2010 more than 1600 people reported sick by salmonella found in eggs produced by Hillandale Farms in Iowa which voluntarily recalled approx. a half billion eggs in 14 states.

Missouri Wedding
More than 300 people were sickened with Clostridium perfringens from a April 5 wedding in Sullivan, MO. Health officials told The Missourian that the cause was gravy that took too long to cool down, allowing the bacteria to grow and emit toxins.
