Royal Proclamation
- The Royal Proclamation was to establish a basis government administration in the North America territories after Britain won the Seven Years War.
They hoped that this would inspire the First Nations of the expansionism of the Thirteen Colonies and that they should accept the British rule. FNMI Perspective:
I think the FN people felt happy and not so good because first, they promised the First Nation a degree of land security. -
The Manitoba Act
- This includes the protections for the region’s of the Metis people. These protections were not fully perceive, to sum it up the Metis ended up leaving the province.
They thought that the new province wouldn't established because of its small population as well as the province could not support itself financially. FNMI Perspective:
The Metis people found themselves migrating further westward in order to pursue and maintain their traditional lifestyle. -
The Indian Act
-The Indian Act concerns the registered Indians, their bands and the system that indian reserves. The act defines a various types of number of Indian people who is not considered as a “registered”or “status” Indians and those who are recognized they denied the membership in bands. Gov. Pers
They tried to balance the Indian Act with the Gradual Civilization Act and the Gradual Enfranchisement FNMi Pers.
They thought that the Indian act was a target of criticism. -
Treaty 8
- Treaty 8 is the largest treaty in the Canada because it includes the North-West Territories and British Columbia and now it includes the Northern Alberta Alberta, northwest Saskatchewan, and portions of the modern Northwest Territories and BC, making it the largest treaty by area in the history of Canada.
They had previously encountered in Numbered Treaties negotiations and they want these lands for use in settlement and development projects -
Constitution Act
- This Act allows the Canadians to revise their own Constitution without requiring any approval from Britain.
The government promised during the campaign that Ottawa would re-open constitutional negotiations.
