DAY 1
-Begin morning procedure: greet and welcome students at door.
-Students quietly find name tags on desk and begin welcome activity.
-Discuss importance of rules and come up with 3-4 rules for chart paper such as:
-We follow the teacher's instructions.
-We listen when someone else is talking.
-We use class time for class activities.
-Explain basic hand signals for questions/comments, getting a pencil, getting a drink, going to washroom.
-Signalling for quiet and attention
-Lunchtime rules -
DAY 2
-Late arrival procedure.
-Morning procedure: hang up backpack, take out agenda, greet teacher at door and go silently to complete morning message activity.
-Appropriate times for moving around the room
-Teach students how to exit the classroom. Teach line-up song.
-Moving throughout the school procedure.
-Send home welcome letter explaining who I am, explain classroom rules and routines.
-Dismissal -
DAY 3
-Teach procure for how students move to desks/carpet.
-Begin classroom jobs: line leader, paper distributer, librarian, gardener, clean-up patrol, etc.
-Teach students how to label notebooks and papers.
-Early Finisher Routines
-Review class rules — have students act out each rule -
DAY 4
-Emergency drills and procedures
-Complete a survey about classroom attitudes, time management, and behaviour: Students write goals for behaviour
-Review Rules and explain consequence system -
DAY 5
-Morning Meetings: begin tracking system to encourage all students come to class fully prepared
-Grading and homework policies (including make-up work)
-Begin "make-up" procedure for students who were absent.
-Begin procedure for how students turn in forms/work
-Teach whole body listening skills and draw chart showing what listening looks like.
