    Joseph Marie Jacquard invents the first mechanical device that uses wooden punch cards to set loom patterns.
  • First Printing Calculator

    First Printing Calculator
    Swedish inventor Per Georg Scheutz created a printing calculator.
    This is significant because it was able to read from a table, calculate the differences, and then print the results. That is almost enough to describe the worlds first computer.
  • Punch Card Machine

    Punch Card Machine
    Herman Hollerith invented a punch card machine that used cards with holes in them to give the machine instruction. This was another significant evolution because he added another process through input via key punch. His invention saved the U.S. Government millions of dollars in labor costs and time.
