1st Step
Students:
1. Create your RAFTS according to your notes on page 17-19 in your Interactive Notebook.
2. Be sure your thesis statement is a complete declarative sentence.
3. Choose a word bank of 10 verbs that will help your writing sound more professional. DO NOT use words you do not know how to use.
4. Make sure you choose your topic from your circle map on page 16. -
2nd Step
Students:
1. Based on your RAFTS, create a Circle Map to figure out your topic sentences.
2. ALL thoughts about your thesis statement must be complete sentences.
3. Remember, your thesis goes in the center and all your thoughts surround it.
4. Choose the 3 best thoughts about your thesis and rank them 1st best, 2nd best, and 3rd best. -
3rd Step
Students:
1. Complete your modified tree map.
2. Remember to write your reasons in the proper order: 2nd best, 3rd best, and save the best (#1) for last.
3. Write details about each topic sentence.
4. On the dotted line, find proof that supports your thought (the topic sentence, not the thesis).
5. Remember the counter argument! Find something that the opposing party might use to fight against you, and... SMASH IT! :) -
4th Step
Students: Your 1st draft is due!
1. Make sure you use your Modified Tree Map to keep your paragraphs organized.
2. Use the rubric when reviewing your 1st draft to ensure you have everything your paper needs.
