  • Westward Expansion

    Westward Expansion
    The Westward Expansion was the expansion of America expanding all the way to California as a result for winning the war. One of the big treaties that was signed during this time was the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This treaty allowed over 80,000 Mexicans to have the choice of becoming American Citizens. This gave many Mexicans to mine and collect gold specifically in California.
  • The Election of 1876

    The Election of 1876
    The Election of 1876 was between the two candidates Rutherford B. Hayes who was a republican and Samuel J. Tilden who was a democrat. The election resulted in Hayes winning, and was to be known as one of the most contested presidential elections in American History due to the election fraud and violence that was committed against black voters.
  • Haymarket Affair

    Haymarket Affair
    The Haymarket Affair was a protest due to the way industrial workers were treated including the long hours that they made them work without rest. Many were fighting for better work conditions as well as eight hour work days. Due to the riot that took place in Haymarket Square, at least eight people died.
  • The Depression of 1893

    The Depression of 1893 was more or so referred to as a "Panic" due to a crash in the stock market as important companies were shutting down including the Philadelphia railroad and the National Cordage Company. Many people worked for these companies, losing their jobs as a result.
  • The Atlanta Compromise

    The Atlanta Compromise
    The Atlanta Compromise was a speech made by Booker T. Washington who was the first African American to give a speech to a mixed audience of black and white people in the south. This speech would open the cotton states and the international exposition in Georgia.
  • The Spanish-American War

    The Spanish-American War
    The Spanish-American War was a conflict between the U.S. and Spain after the sinking of battleship Maine in Havana Harbor. The results of the war ended with Spain losing its control over many islands including Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines Islands.
  • Niagara Movement

    Niagara Movement
    The Niagara Movement was made in order fight racial discrimination and segregation. The movement was made under the NAACP, which was an organization made by a group of black people near Niagara Falls, in order make progress towards civil and political rights for African Americans.
  • The African American Great Migration

    The African American Great Migration was known as one of the largest migration of people in the history of the United States. In order to escape racism in the south, many African Americans moved from the South States to the North and West States in order to have more job and education opportunities.
  • World War 1

    World War 1
    Also known as the Great War, World War 1 was a battle between the Central Powers and the Allied Powers. The war consisted mainly of trench warfare resulting in over 16 million people dying. The war ended with the Allied Powers claiming victory over the Central Powers
  • The Paris Peace Conference

    The Paris Peace Conference
    The Paris Peace Conference was a meeting between the United Kingdom, France, the United States, and Italy which happened in order to create peace after World War 1. This resulted in all four countries being known as "The Big Four" and led to the treaty of Versailles which ended World War 1.

    The Teapot Dome Scandal was a scandal that exposed the government's corruption including murder suicides, corrupt politicians, and corrupt oil industries. It also involved the government being put into investigation by the senate for corruption.
  • Scopes Monkey Trial

    Scopes Monkey Trial
    The Scopes Monkey trial was the trial for the man known as John Thomas Scopes. He was a high school science teacher in Dayton, Tennessee. Scopes was put on trial for violating the Tennessee state law by teaching the evolution to high school students.
  • The election of 1928

    The election of 1928
    After republican Calvin Coolidge announced he would not be running for a second term, this caused Herbert Hoover to be the next republican candidate who ended up defeating democrat Alfred E. Smith in the 1928 election. He ended up winning by a large margin in the electoral college 444-87.
  • The Stock Market Crash of 1929

    The Stock Market Crash of 1929
    The Stock Market Crash of 1929 was the beginning of the Great Depression when Wall Street investors traded in about 16 million shares in one day which caused thousands of investors to lose money. It was said in that single that billions of dollars were lost as a result.
  • The Dust Bowl

    The Dust Bowl
    The Dust Bowl was a time where huge dust storms went across the states from Texas to Nebraska. The dust storms were happening during a huge water shortage that was happening in the southern area in the 1930's. The Dust Bowl also caused many farmers to quit farming and look for other work.
  • The Ford Hunger March

    The Ford Hunger March
    The Ford Hunger March was march in Detroit, Michigan in demand for jobs, wages, and health care to the Ford Motor Company. The march was started by the Young Communist League and the Detroit Unemployed Council. The march resulted in five worker being killed and sixty being injured due to protestors fighting officers and security.
  • The First New Deal

    The First New Deal
    The First New Deal started out with a bunch of new projects by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to help bring America out of the Great Depression. Some of these new deals included the Civilian Conservation Corps which gave jobs to young men and the Work Progress Administration which gave work to many Americans and rebuild schools and hospitals.
  • The Second New Deal

    The Second New Deal was a second series of projects that continued to aim towards helping unemployment and the unstable economy. These new projects included the Work Progress Administration which provide more jobs for unemployed people and the National Labor Relations Act which stopped the unfair treatment of workers from businesses.
  • World War 2

    World War 2 happened due to the rising power of Adolf Hitler and the Nazis in Germany. The war was started when Great Britain and France declared war on Germany after Hitler invade Poland. The war resulted in at least 45 million people killed including 6 million Jews due to the concentration camps set up by the Nazis.
  • The Cold War

    The Cold War happened after World War 2 when tensions between the Soviet Union and the U.S. began to rise. This resulted in the U.S. forming the NATO military alliance in case the Soviets decided to attack. The Soviets were also seen as a nuclear threat to the U.S., causing many Americans to built bomb shelters.
