    Guidelines for a Safe Learning Environment Students will be introduced to the Unit on learning how to collaborate effectively in a digital & physical education environment where they learn interpersonal as well as listening/speaking skills.

    Unit/Theme: Collaboration within the Educational Environment in order to build interpersonal relationships and listening/speaking skills Guiding Question: How can we improve the digital & physical educational environment and increase collaboration and interpersonal skills among students?
  • Week 1 (Oct. 26-30)

    Week 1 (Oct. 26-30)
    Students will be acquainted with the novel "Of Mice and Men" and collaborate with each other in a socratic seminar discussion on the hardships during this time period (Great Depression). They will use the text "Harvest Gypsies" as the central focus in their socratic seminar discussions with each other.
  • Week 2 (Nov.2-6)

    Week 2 (Nov.2-6)
    Dust Bowl Era Video Students will incorporate technology into a fishbowl discussion on the Great Depression era by using a video on the Dust Bowl and using it actively in their discussion with each other.
  • Week 3 (Nov.9-13)

    Week 3 (Nov.9-13)
    Students will practice collaborating through creating rough drafts of their Of Mice and Men essays and peer-reading each other's rough drafts via Google Docs, providing feedback and constructive comments to help improve their papers.
  • Week 4 (Nov.16-20)

    Week 4 (Nov.16-20)
    Students will finalize their essays for Of Mice and Men and submit it digitally online through Turnitin.com.
