    August 13, 1926: Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz was born on August 13, 1926 in Biran, Cuba. He was the third of 6 children. His siblings include Raúl and Ramón, his two brothers, and his three sisters, Angela, Emma and Agustina. His parents are Ángel, his father and Lina Ruz González, his mother.

    July 26, 1953: Fidel and some other people created a group they liked to call “The Movement”. Fidel and about 150 others attacked the Moncada military barracks outside of Santiago de Cuba. They attack failed and Fidel was captured and sentenced to 15 years in prison. His brother Raul was among those captured as well.

    1955: Fidel, Raul and the others who were captured were released. They made a deal with Batista to be released. Raul and Fidel traveled to Mexico where they continued to plan their revolution.

    Fidel became the prime minister of Cuba in 1959. He gave it up in 1976 but then in that same year he was president of Cuba. In 2008 he finally resigned and gave the position to his younger brother Raul.
