    Size of a pinhead
    The egg attaches to the lining of the uterus
    The heart starts to beat
    The internal organs and circulatory systems start to form
  • Month 2

    Baby is about 6mm
    Bones begin to form
    Face, ears, eyes, and limbs take shape
  • Month 3

    Baby is about 1 inch
    Nostrils, mouth, lips, and eyelids form
    Buds for all 20 baby teeth form
    Fingers and toes are almost complete
  • Month 4

    Baby is about 3 inches long
    Facial features are clearer
    Baby can suck its thumb, hiccup, swallow, and move around
  • Month 5

    Baby is about 7 inches long
    Organs are maturing
    Hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes form
  • Month 6

    Baby is about 8-10 inches
    Breathing movements begin
    Fat deposits under skin, but fetus appears wrinkled
  • Month 7

    Baby is about 10-12 inches
    Has periods of activity followed by periods rest
    Baby weighs about 1-2 pounds
  • Month 8

    Baby is about 14-16 inches
    Moves head in down position
    Rapid weight gain continues
  • Month 9

    About 17-18 inches
    Skin becomes smoother due to fat deposits
    Movements decrease
    The baby descends to the pelvis ready for birth
