    Catherine Beecher
    Catherine Beecher played a huge part in the founding of the FCS profession. In 1841 Catherine wrote the first textbook recognized by the Department of Education. This book was called "A Treatise on Domestic Economy". On top of this, she also writes 33 textbooks.(Powerpoint)
  • W.O. Atwater

    W.O. Atwater
    Atwater had a big role in the FCS profession. He was considered the "Father of Nutrition". He also invented the Bomb Calorimeter.(Powerpoint)
  • Morrill Act of 1862

    Morrill Act of 1862

    Ellen Richards had a big influence on the FCS field. She was an MIT graduate and chemistry faculty member. In 1894, she started the school lunch program. Also in 1894, she sold nutritious lunches at the Chicago World's fair. All the lunches included nutritive value and cost per serving
