Positive Event - My family members gave me books as gifts. I had a wide variety of books that I still have today and now I can share them with my daughters. -
Library storytime
Positive Event - My mom took me to storytime at the library as a preschooler. It was a good way for me to listen to stories and socialize with children my age. -
Watching Sesame Street
Positive Event - I remember Sesame Street helping me to learn the letters of the alphabet. I would watch Sesame Street in the kitchen as I played. -
Library summer reading program
Positive Event - My mom signed me up for the summer reading program at the library. Reading many genres of books helped me to discover my favorite types of books. -
Created my personal dictionary
Positive Event - My first grade teacher tried to encourage my writing ability by having me create a personal dictionary. I can’t believe I saved it all these years. -
School spelling bee
Negative Event - I participated in my school spelling bee. My mom helped me study, but I crumbled under the pressure of spelling on stage. -
Wrote to my favorite author
Positive Event - My school library wanted to create an author quilt, so we wrote to our favorite authors and sent quilt squares for them to sign. To my amazement, I received a signed quilt square from Judy Blume. -
Tutored elementary school students
Positive Event - I had the privilege of participating in a tutoring program in college. Tutoring sparked my interest in teaching. -
Won Orioles baseball tickets
Positive Event -My daughters participated in the library’s summer reading program. They won tickets to a Baltimore Orioles baseball game. -
Reading with my daughters
Positive and Negative - My 11 year-old daughter has had ups and downs when it comes to enjoying reading. My 5 year-old has her favorite books and I look forward to watching her reading skills develop.
