At age 23 he returns to Germany under the guise of seeing the 1936 olympics but in reality he was there to rescue his family still in Germany. Martin was most likely sent by Rose. Rose had falsely signed papers saying that she was providing employment for immigrants so she could get them into the country. -

In 1936 Martin called his cousin Herbert and told him to meet him in the Frankenberg Churchyard so they could talk without being overheard. Martin explained to Herbert that though he thought that the Hitler and the nazis would simply would blow over it, would be a serious mistake to stay in Germany and that Martin could issue the proper papers for him to come to the U.S. Herbert told his Mother and brother and they agreed they would move to New York. -

Roses sister was named Sabina. Sabrina's husband was named Otto Gartner. Their youngest daughter Thea was disabled and thus not permitted to leave Germany. Her parents refused to leave her so they died in a concentration camp. -
