    Set in a dystopian suburban city, Guy Montag enjoys his job as a fireman, where he burns books down because they are banned. Someone was caught with some, and the story starts with Gy burning their house down.

    As Guy is heading home from work, he sees his new neighbor walking around their neighborhood. She introduces herself and acknowledges Guy as a firefighter. They begin having a conversation, and Guy slowly begins to like her. As they part, Clarisse asks Guy if he is happy, then leaves before he can answer. This sticks around Guy's head for a while after.

    Guy returns to his home to find his wife overdosed on sleeping pills. He quickly reported this, but instead of medics, plumbers came to pump her stomach. Afterwards, they reveal to Guy that these cases come 10 a night, so it became their routine. After the whole catastrophe, he hears laughter coming from Clarisse's home, and realize he isn't happy.

    Guy and Clarisse had continued to converse now and then, talking about Carisse's school experiences to her crazy uncle, but she suddenly disappears a week later. Guy one day asks about the role of firemen in the past to his colleagues, who laughs at him. Later, when they go to an offender's house, Guy goes to thir attic t burn the books housed there. As he is using his flamethrower, a book falls open in front of him, which "his hands" picked them up, not himself.

    As Guy grows more skeptical about the laws they live by today, he meets with Faber, an ex-professor who thinks books only record life and intelligence. They discuss how they will get rid of the fire fighters, but can't find a decent result. Some time after, Guy is playing cards with the firemen, when Beatty begins taunting Guy with book quotes, many from the same author. When Beatty grabbed Guy's arms, he was surprised by how fast his heart rate was.

    As he begins stealing more and more books, he decided to recite poetry aloud to his wife's friends. However, one of them reports books to the firefighters, which Beatty is not pleased to hear. As the firefighters arrive at Guy's house, Mildred flees with a suitcase in hand. Beatty taunts Guy, then instructs him to burn his house down. He also discovers an earpiece connected to Faber, which he instructs to go after him as well. Guy burned his house down, and turned his flamethrower to Beatty.

    Guy burns Beatty to ashes, then beats up the two other firemen. As he does so, he discovers the hound behind them, ready to strike. Guy grabs the flamethrower and torches the mechanical hound, but not before it was able to inject a needle into Guy's leg, making it numb. As he limps over to Faber's house, he discovers that a police chase is in order, after him.

    Guy went to Faber's house, but not before hiding books at a coworkers house and calling the alarm on him. He gives Faber some money, then faber instructs Guy to follow the railroad into the country. They plan to meet up again in St. Louis. A new Mechanical Hound is used by the police to track Guy, so they decided to act quickly to flee. The chase is over, and the hound can't track him anymore. He eventually reaches the railroads, which he allegedly assumes Clarisse walked there before.
  • Granger and his misfit professors

    Granger and his misfit professors
    As Guy follows the tracks, he meets up with Granger, another ex-professor with an optimistic view of his life as a fugitive. He and his friends memorize one whole book per person, then burns the book. This way, each person holds information in order to recite them when time calls for it. They knew of Guy's existence through a small TV they owned, where they watched the chase.
  • The explosion

    The explosion
    While Granger, Guy and their company heads further downstream, they notice fighter jets flying across the sky, towards the city, then a giant, bright explosion occurs, blowing up the entire city. Guy yells for Clarisse and Faber, but then realizes both of them fled the city. He then thought of Mildred, dead under all the rubble. The men head back to ground zero, where everything became leveled. Granger spoke of a phoenix's rebirth from the ashes, as they head upstream where their help is needed
