Foster Grants
Sam Foster started the Foster Grant Company in 1919. In 1929, Sam Foster sold the first pair of Foster Grants sunglasses at the Woolworth on the Atlantic City Boardwalk. Sunglasses became popular in the 1930s. -

In 1826, William Beecher came to Southbridge, Massachusetts from Connecticut to establish a jewelry-optical manufacturing shop. The first ophthalmic articles he produced were silver spectacles which were later followed by blue steel. In 1869 the American optical Company was incorporated and absorbed the holding of William Beecher. In 1849 J. J. Bausch emigrated to the United States from Germany.
