    A Trip to Roanoke Island
    When Walter Raliegh commanded Queen Elizabeth to send 100 men to Roanoke Island, there was violence with the Native Americans. The men even killed the Native chief! They weren't even able to grow crops since they arrived so late in the growing season. So, they deserted the island and turned back home.
  • The Lost Colony

    The Lost Colony
    After the disappiontment of not settling in Roanoke Island, Walter Raleigh decided to create a more permanent settlement in Chesapeake bay. He instructed John White to check on the men in the new location and brought his family along with him. When Fernandez needed to get more supplies, John White hesitantly came with him. When they came back from the two year voyage, they found the island deserted. They only found the word ''CROATOAN'' which was the name of a nearby tribe carved on a tree.
  • Jamestown Settlement

    When a group of over 100 men landed on the banks of Virginia,they were immediatly attacked by Chief Powhatan's tribe. A fort was soon built for their protection. The winter was very hard for the men. They were running low on food and getting sick. only about 60 men survived to astablish Jamestown.
  • Peace between the Natives and English

    Captain Smith and other men were searching for food when they got captured by Chief Powhatan. Pocahontas wouldn't let her father execute Captain Smith and demanded peace.she became friends with the native Americans. Captain Smith soon became ill. The friendly relationship between the settlers and the Powhatan tribe soon weakend. Pocahontas got arrested and then converted to Christianisty by the settlers because her father had some of their belongings. She then encouraged peace once again.
  • House of Burgesses and Indentured Slaves

    The House of Burgesses, the first elected assembly was astablished. Some indentured servants arrived by boat to work on the land to later own it. Others had to work to pay off their voyage to the New World. Workers are important in the New World because the men rely on cask crops to boost their economy but they couldn't or didn't want to do it them selves.
  • Journey on the Mayflower

    Bad weather on the Mayflower caused the people onboard to live on salted beef, dried buiscuts, and dried vegetables since they weren't able to cook on deck. It also caused the ship to sail much farther North in Cape Cod. They then decided to stay and astablish their own colony.
  • A Thanksgiving Feast

    William Bradford held a feast to celebrate being alive and to thank Squanto for all their help and generosity. They wanted to share their harvest of croops from their first successful growin g seasonwith the Wompanogs, Chief Massasoit, and Squanto. This became the first Thanksgiving.
  • How Pennsylvania came to be

    Since the puritans in New England didn't allow Quakers and he owed William's father a loan before he died, King Charles ll granted William Penn land in the New World southwest of New Jersey. At first William wanted to call it Sylvania,which means woods, but then added his name and it became Pennsylvania.
