    Jewish Agency Bombing
    Radicals resisting the Israel War of Independence, set a precedent of terrorist methods for the rest of the century. This event was on the earliest bombings of a government facility with civilians. The bombing was also conducted with a car bomb, a method which is still continually used. This bombing was also a turning point in Israel's War of Independence, as it resulted in major civilian loss.
  • Toussaint Rouge (Red All Saints' Day)

    Toussaint Rouge (Red All Saints' Day)
    The date is also known as the starting date for the Algerian War. In the late night in the French Controlled Algeria, 30 individuals, over a time span of two hours, were attacked by a guerrilla group based out of the National Liberation Front which fought for Algerian independence. This event was impactful, as it demonstrated guerrilla tactics that were also then used in the Cold war, and by other terrorist in the rest of the century.
  • First US Airline Hijacked to Cuba

    First US Airline Hijacked to Cuba
    After the US broke relations with Cuba, and before the Cuban missile crisis US Airlines Convair 440 was taken over by Antulio Ortiz and flown to Cuba. The first of many planes that were to be taken over an rerouted to Cuba. At the time, plane hijacking was not even considered a federal crime. Ortiz set the stage for many other terrorist after him to use the same tactic for decades.
  • Munich Massacre

    Munich Massacre
    During the Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany, eleven Israeli athletes were taken hostage and killed. A German police officer was also killed. The terrorist group responsible for this act was a group called Black September who are based out of Palestine. This event shocked the world. In effect of this US president Richard Nixon pressed the United Nations to greatly improve their ways of standing up against international terrorism.

    In order to function, many terrorist groups have to find ways to produce money. In the 1980's drug trafficking and kidnapping and ransom spiked in areas with terrorist groups or high terrorist activity, Colombia being one of these areas. The terrorist/militia group based in Colombia kidnapped a US citizen and held for ransom.

    Many acts of terrorism are political motivated with strategic goals in mind. The US Embassy Bombings were no exception to this. At this time the anti-American terrorist group, al-Qaeda, was at full steam. They decided that the destruction of two US embassies in Africa would help them to get a strategic advantage as well as demonstrate their power. Over 200 civilians died in the destruction of an embassy in Dar es Slaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya.

    September 11 Attacks
    9/11 was a major turning point in the history of terrorism. In all of history, 9/11 is considered the largest terrorist attack, with 3,000 killed, over 400 being police officers and firefighters. The terrorist group responsible is al-Qaeda. After this attacks, countries around the world, not only the US, heavily increased international security and flight restrictions. The attack also worsened tensions between the Middle East and the US.
  • Israel Internet Hack

    Israel Internet Hack
    Since the creation of the internet, there has been another way to spread violence and crime, aside from our actual physical world. The 2009 hack of the Israeli internet infrastructure was one of these times. The attack was launched from the Gaza Strip, executed by at least half a million computers (presumably funded by Hamas). The attack debilitated government sites and thousands of Israeli government documents were stolen. As technology grows, these attacks continue to be more frequent.
  • Paris Attacks

    Paris Attacks
    The attacks on Paris were the deadliest on France since World War II. The magnitude of terrorist attacks continue to grow, and the Paris Attacks are evidence of this; with 130 people killed, mostly by suicide bombers, a common theme of many terrorist attacks. The ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) claimed responsibility for the attacks, claiming that it was payment for airstrikes on ISIL in Iraq and Syria by the French.
