Evolution of Ecotourism in the World

  • Costa Rica: Ecotourism cradle . Europe first Green Tourism manifestations.

    In the 80's Costa Rica became a (biologic laboratory) scientific research and experimentation centre for USA and Canadá, thanks to its rich biodiversity and multiple ecosystems. These scientific groups get the investment for its researchs in the tourists interested in what they were doing and how. With time, this will be develovep as a type of tourism. Also, Europe was presenting Green Tourism in these years that would become in the modern fact of Ecotourism
  • "Our Common Future" aka "Brundtland report" from the United Nations World Commission on Environment and Development

    "Our Common Future" aka "Brundtland report" from the United Nations World Commission on Environment and Development
    Its targets were multilateralism and interdependence of nations in the search for a sustainable development path. The report sought to recapture the spirit of the United Nations
    Conference on the Human Environment - the Stockholm Conference - which had introduced environmental concerns to the formal political development sphere. Our Common Future placed environmental issues firmly on the political agenda; it aimed to discuss the environment and development as one single issue.
  • The International Ecoturism Organization (TIES) is founded

    Is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting ecotourism. Founded in 1990, TIES has been in the forefront of the development of ecotourism, providing guidelines and standards, training, technical assistance, research and publications. TIES' global network of ecotourism professionals and travelers is leading the efforts to make tourism a viable tool for conservation, protection of bio-cultural diversity, and sustainable community development.

    Defined by The International Ecotourism Organization. They asked themselves What is Ecotourism? And they conclude that is "a responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment, sustains the well-being of the local people, and involves interpretation and education"

    New reliance on public transportation systems in order to reduce vehicle emissions and the health problems caused by pollution
    The growing usage and limited supply of water.
