From Compromises to Civil War
There were a lot of events that led up to the Civil War but not all were compromises. It started with the Missouri Compromise, then the compromise of 1850, then the Kansas-Nebraska Act, then the Dred Scott case, then the Election of 1860, and finally the Attack on Fort Sumter. -
Missouri Compromise
It was a line that stated what parts of the Americas where slavery and which parts were free. the line was at 36°30′. it worked for awhile but this event led up to the civil war because the south was worried that the north would overpower them. -
Compromise of 1850
Compromise of 1850 - It made California a (no slavery) state but it also made all the new state territories decide on if they wanted to be a slave state or a free state. This lead up to the Civil war by giving the south the opportunity of getting their escaped slaves back from the north and made the fugitive slave law. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
The Kansas-Nebraska Act made Kansas and Nebraska states. In Kansas they had pro-slavery governments and they also had anti-slavery governments. this lead up to the civil war because border ruffians had crossed into Kansas just to make it a slave state. It forced settlers vote on if Kansas and Nebraska should be slave or free states. -
Dred Scott Decision
Dred Scott lived in Wisconsin a free state for a couple years. Wisconsin is a free state and he came back to the south and he wanted to argue with the government to give him his freedom. This lead up to the Civil War -
Election of 1860
Since Lincoln won the election the south took it very seriously and took it into their own hands and started a all out war in congress with a northern congressman being beat by a iron cane. -
Attack on Fort Sumter
On April 12, 1861, The south had started to shell Fort Sumter. They gave it their best just to win that war. it was a Fort just north of South Carolina and the Southern General P.G.T Beauregard had surrendered on that day to the north.
