French and Indian War
It was a worldwide struggle between France and Britain they were fighting for land and trade ever since 1689. The war ended with the defeat of France and the transfer of French Canada to Britain. -
Stamp Act
This act was a tax law that required the colonists to purchase special stamps to prove payment of tax because of that law Colonists boycotted the british goods. In March 1766 the parliament repealed the law. -
Townshed Acts
This act taxed goods that were imported into the British colony, it also imposed tax on tea. Once again the colonist boycotted the british goods, they protested " taxation without representation". -
Boston Massacre
the Boston massacre was a ckash between British soldiers and Boston colonists, where five of the colonists were killed. This occured when a mob gathered in front of the boston Customs House and the colonists taunted the British soldiers, until the soldiers fired at the colonists. -
Tea Act
British gave the East India Company special concessions in the colonial tea business and shuts out colonial tea merchants. Which this led the colonists to rebel. -
Boston Tea Party
this was where a large group of Boston rebels disguised themselves as Native Americans and took action against three british tea ships anchored in the harbor, they dumped 18,000 pounds of the east india company's tea into the waters of Boston harbor. -
Intolerable acts
Kind George III tightened control over Massachusetts, one law shut down Boston harbor. Another law was the quartering acts, where authorized British commanders to house the soldiers in a vacant private homes and other buildings. -
1st Continental Congress
during the first Continental Congress twelve of the thirteen sent delegates ( Georgia didn't send it's delegate).The delegates united in a determination to show a combined authority to Great Britain. one of the things they resolved in the congress was that they are entitled to life, liberty and property. Many more thing were resolved as well. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
In the battle there was 700 british troops and 70 minutemen.As the britidh got closer to the town of Lexington the commander ordered the minutemen to lay down their arms and leave but the did not listen. Then someone fired and the British began to fire. At the end the war lasted only 15 minutes. -
2nd Continental Congress
Roger Sherman of Connecticut, John Adams of Massachusetts, Robert Livingston of New York, Pennsylvania's Benjamin Franklin, and a tall Virginian named Thomas Jefferson were the delegates that attended. Some delagates wanted indepence immediatly, but others still wanted to be loyal to King George III. At the end they established the Continental Army an decided to declare independence -
Publishing of Common Sense
Common sense is a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine that states his arguments in favor of American Independence. It also challenged the authority of the British government and the royal monarchy.
