Mercantilism Theory
Mercantilism was formed because of the economic problems in England. It was a way for the colonies to florish and make England wealthy again. Underlying this theory was the thought that wealth had limits. It was put to use in the Engish colonies through the Navagation Acts.

Salutory Neglaect
Salutory Neglect is a British policy applied in the 13 colonies. It allowed the colonists to break any law they wished and could do whatever they wanted freely. The main priorty was not only to keep the Colonies loyal to Britian, but so that Britian could focus on Politics.

French and Indian War
The French and Indian War, also known as the seven years war, was a war that involved mainly the British and the French over land ownership. The Iroquis sided when the French later on for monetary reasons, but also sided with the British.

Proclamation of 1763
Issued by King George II, the Proclamation of 1763 was issued to ban all colonial settlement west of the Applalachian mountians. However, the colonists ignored it, as they believed that they deserved the land since they won the French and Indian War.

The Stamp Act of 1765
The Stamp Act of 1765 was passed by British Parliment. It imposed a tax that required all colonists to pay a tax on any printed piece of paper. Such items included newspapers, legal documents, liscenses, and even playing cards. This act did not sit well with the colonists.

The Quarting Act
The Quarting Act required all colonists to provide room and board for the British soilders in barracks. It outlined the locations and conditions for the barracks so the colonists could get to work so when the british soilders were in town they had a place to stay.

The Declaratory Act of 1766
The Declaratory Act of 1766 of was passed right after the Stamp Act was condemened. The Declaratory Act of 1766 insured Britian that the had control of the 13 colonies at all times. Basicially, the Parilemnts power it had in Englad was equal to the new power they had on the 13 colonies.

The Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was an event that involved both British soilders and colonists in Boston. It was a tense situation because of the fact that the British soilders were in the colony of Boston, and it led to five people dead.

The Tea Act of 1773
The Tea Act of 1773 was inforced to gain a tea company more money by making the colonists pay more than the tea was worth itself. This made the colonists very angry with the private company as well as with the British for going along with this plan.

The Boston Tea Party of 1773
The Boston Tea Party of 1773 was an act of revenge by the Boston Colonists. The colonists were fed up with the outragous prices of tea and wanted revenge. So the colonists decided to dress as Indian's pretending to be part of the private company deleriving tea to Boston. However, the British did not catch the "Indians" and they dumped the overpriced tea overboard for revenge.

The Coercive/Intolerable Acts
The Coercive/Intolerable Acts were passed by the English parliment, with a goal of restoring and maintaining order in the colony of Massachuttes as well as punishing the colonists of the town of Boston for their "tea party". This act closed the Boston port until the damages were paid for (all the tea that went overboard).

First Continental Congress

Battles of Lexington and Concord
The battles of Lexington and Concord was the start of the American Revolution. Due to many years of tension between the thirteen colonies and Britian, battles broke out. Second Continental Congress
After the battles of Lexington and Concord the Continental Cngress met in Philadelphia, but only calling it the Second Continental Congress due to the second meeting. They mainly discussed how the colonists were going to defeat the red coats (British) and how many men they needed to win the battle, and they formed the Continental Army to do so.

Thomas Paine Writes Common Sense
Thomas Paine was an author as well as one of the four founding fathers of our country. He moved to the colonis from Britian to engage in the American Revolution. There, he wrote his famous book "Common Sense" on Janurary 9, 1776, which promoted independence of the thirteen colonies from Britian.

The Townshend Acts
The Townshend Acts was passed by the English Parilment and it imposed taxes on glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea imported into the colonies. The colonists viewed the Townshend Acts as an abuse of power by the Birtish Parilemnt and were not happy.

The Decleration of Independence (1776)
After a great amount of tension between the thirteen colonies and Britian, the Continental Congress had to vote on the issue. They drew up a document titled "The Decleration of Independence", which stated that the thirteen colonies were now independent states, meaning that the British had no more control over them.

The American Revolution Ends (1781)
The American Revolution ends with a surrendering of the British in Yorktown. This is commonly known as the battle of Yorktown because this battle was the official last battle of the American Revolutionary war. It was led by the lead general George Washington. This battle forced the British to surrender and give up the power of the colonies.
