Marshall plan
Secretary of state George C. Marshall had the idea to help the European economy after WWII. This was prevent communism because after the war because the economies were bankrupt and there was virtually industry.If the condition of life did not increace for these non communist counties they might join comunist Russia to get back on their feet. -
Berlin Airlift
After the second world war when the Allies divided Germany into four zones the alliance of the 4 powers was somewhat disbanded. The western allies whith thier parts of Germany decided to make a different government in their zones. The Soviets harrasses western traffic which would later lead to the Berlin blockade. To prevent the blockade the west decided to airlift 2,326,406 tons of food and other essentials on almost three hundred thousand flghts at times there were 32 planes in the air. -
Creation of NATO
The North Atlantic Treaty organization was as plan to have a collective defence in case any of the countries were attacked. It was ultimatly a way to prevent communism from spreading. China Turns Communist
After the Chinese civil war the communists lead by Mao Zedong beat the nationalists and drove them into Taiwan. The hostility between the communists and tha nationalists continued throughoutt the cold war. -
Korean War
North Korea invades south Korea and the U.S. intervene with a "police action". China and the Soviot Union both intervened on te side of North Korea and the UN forces were pushed far back into South Korea. By 1951 negotiations and peace talks started. The Korean War had warmed up the cold war. -
RosenBerg Case
Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were convicted of conspiracy of spying on the Unites States information about the atomic bomb and sending the imformation to the Soviet Union. These allegations were confirmed in 1995 when a series of messages were decoded from Russia that shows Ethel was a curior for the Soviets. -
US tests Hydrogen Bomb
The US is the first to have a thermonuclear weapon, spefically the hydrogen bomb. It was first tested in the Eniwtok atoll in the Pacific. This was the responce to the Soviets have the atomic bomb which yet again gave us the upper hand in the arms race. Not only was it the next stage in nuclear warfare but it was 1,000 times more powerful than the atomic bomb. -
Warsaw Pact
The warsaw pact included The Soviet Union, Albania, Poland, Romania, Hungary, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Bulgaria. The warsaw pact was ultimatly the Soviets responce to the western powers trying to get west Germany to join NATO and therfore have a military again. When Russia realized this they responded with the warsaw pact. -
Vietnam War
The Vietnam war was a fright that started with North Vietnam being a commnist state and wanting to unight both South and North Vietnam. The United states was trying to stop the spread of communism and containing it, Ultimatly it was all for not becasue when the U.S withdrew North vietnam claim the south and made 1 vietnam 2 years later. -
Bay of Pigs
The failed invasion of of the bay of pigs, or LA BAtalla de Giron" was triggered after Fidel Castro threw out the current leader, Geral Fugencio Batista. The U.S. then launched an invasion which went badly for the Americans and the Cubans they had trained. They were outnumbered so greatly that they surrendered in less than a day. -
Creation of Berlin Wall
The Berlin wall was created to divide East and West Berlin specifically cutting off West berlin by land. The east said that the wall was built to protect the people from facism. But really it just prevented people from moving between to the blocks. -
Cuban Missle Crisis
The Cuban missle crisis was a stand off between The United States and the Soviet Union with Cuba. After the bay of pigs failed Khrushchev had the idea to put Russian nukes on Cuba to ward off any future attacks. The United States U-2 plane took pictures of the nuke sites. To solve the problem we agreed never to invade cuba and the Soviets took theur nukes and whent home on Nov 20 1962. -
Six Day War
The six day war began when Isreal bombed Egypt contolled air-fields. Isreal fough in Syrian airspace and then Syria attacked Israeli territorry near the border. After six days Israel won all the important land suck as the GAza strip and West bank, therefore winning. -

After communism became unpopular as a government and since there was a new leader in Russia there was no need for it. -
Soviet Union Falls
When the Societ Union Dissolved it gave fifteen republics their freedon and independance. The new president Borus Yeltsin was then in power. Later the new president of the USSR ended the long had hostility between nation with with NATO and the Warsaw Pact.
