  • Creation of Israel

    The Jewish state in Palestine would was declared Israel on May 14, 1948, the first jewish State in 2,000 years. Fighting between the Arabs and Israeli immediately began.
  • Berlin Airlift

    The Russians wanted no one else to claim Berlin, tried to isolate themselves by closing all transportation ways between western-occupied Germany to western-occupied Berlin. This resultes in the US and its allies flying cargo into West Berlin

    The United States and 11 different nations were fearful of communist expansion so then formed NATO. Eastern Europe then formed the Warsaw Pact to rival the formation of NATO.

    The Sputnik, was the world's first artificial satellite created by the Soviet Union, transmitted radio signals back to Earth. The Soviet Union's success then started the "Space Race" against the United States.
