    The reason the war started and what they were fighting for was a port that they could ship to in Europe. Russia wanted the port for that exact reason. They wanted to be in control, but Sweden disagreed with that in which the great northern war started. Then went on for another went on for twenty-one years.
  • The Decembrist Revolt

    The Decembrist Revolt
    When noble sand officers tried to overthrow the czars government. The czar stopped the uprising very fast. He executed five leaders and hundreds of people were sent to siberia. Those leaders that uprised became inspiration for upcoming revolutionists.

    Alexander The II Emancipates The Serfs
    The emancipation of the serfs by Alexander was mostly due to the altering attitudes in Russia towards liberalism. Serfs were treated inhumanely every day. The emancipation took Russia into the 20th century. Four years later, slavery in the US was delcared unlawful by the president.

    The Assasination of Alexander The II
    After he freed the serfs, he made many reforms including healthcare and schools. Because of the reforms like better healthcare and more food, more people came to the area. This made it worse for the peasants. The "peoples will" group was formed to attempt to overthrow Russia's czarist autocracy. They killed Allexander The II with by throwing a bomb at him.
  • Russo-Japenese War

    Russo-Japenese War
    The war started because of the conflict between Russia and Japan. They fought for dominance in Korea and Manchuria. Japan launched a surprise naval attack against a russian naval base in China. Theodore Rosevelt made a peace treaty with both sides. Later he won the noble peice prize with this achievment. Japan imerged the first modern non-western world power.

    The events of Bloody Sunday started the Revolution of 1905. All workers started striking, peasants burned homes of landowners. To end the violence, Czar Nicholas II finally agreed to set up an elected assembly called the Duma and to make other minor reforms.

    This started with a peaceful protest about people's lifestyles. As the crowd marched in protest through St. Petersburg to the Winter Palace, they were confronted by troops that were nervous having to face a large crowd. The soldiers fired on the protestors, killing hundreds.

    the war started from an assasination of austria archduke franz ferdinand an dhis wife sophie.the war was very bloody. the war was in europe for five years. there were approximantly ten million millitary deaths and twenty million wounded. it was supposed to be "the war to end all wars," but the peace treaty acttually set the stage for woorld war two.
  • The March Revolution

    There were riots and strikes in the capital of Russia, Petrograd. 90,000 textile workers went on strike protesting the war and the shortage of food. The government sent troops to restore order but many of the soldiers refused to fire on the crowds. Some of the troops even joined the protest. Czar Nicholas II gave up his throne.

    In 1914, Nicholas led his country into another costly war, Russia grew discontent as food became scarse, soldiers became war-weary, and devastating defeats on the eastern front demonstrated the czar's ineffectual leadership. He was forced to abdicate the throne and a provincial government was installed in his place.
