    A military conflict in which Russia, Denmark-Norway, and Saxony-Poland challenged the supermacy of Sweden in the
    Baltic area. Swedens expantion of the balic area antagonized neighboring states. The result of the war resulted in the decline of the swedish influence and the emerge of Russia as major power in the region. The anti-swedish colation owned or threatend most of Swedens land during this time.
  • Decemberist Revolt

    Decemberist Revolt
    Russian revolutionaries who led an unsuccessful uprising on Dec. 14 and through their martyrdom provided a source of inspiration to succeeding generations of Russian dissidents. Decembrists were primarily members of the upper classes who had military backgrounds. The Northern Society, taking advantage of the brief but confusing interregnum following the death of Tsar Alexander I, staged an uprising. The rebellion, however, was poorly organized and easily suppressed.

    Alexander II Emancipates the Serfs
    Alexander II set the serfs free from there duties. He gave them there liberty and werent owned anymore. But the peasants didn't know what to do after they were free. So they still lived a poor life even when they weren't serfs.

    People were mad at some of the actions ALexander the II was makeing so on march 1 1881 he was wounded by bombs as a plot to kill him. On march 13 he died from his wounds. After his death Alexander III took over. He was thought of as a great historical figure. The people who were involved in the assassanation were hung.

    The war developed out of the rivalry between Russia and Japan for dominance in Korea and Manchuria. Japan forced Russia to abandon its expansionist policy in the Far East, becoming the first Asian power in modern times to defeat a European power. President Theodore Roosevelt of the United States served as mediator at the peace conference. Resulting Treaty of Portsmouth, Japan gained control of the Liaotung Peninsula (and Port Arthur) and the South Manchurian railroad (which led to Port Arthur),
  • Russian Revolution

    Russian Revolution
    Russian Revolution of 1905, uprising that was instrumental in convincing Tsar Nicholas II to attempt the transformation of the Russian government from an autocracy into a constitutional monarchy. The Russians were unhappy with the goverment. This resulted in Nicholas II converting to a constitutional monarchy. It helped the goverment and the people of Russia.
  • Bloody Sunday

    A massacre in St. Petersburg, Russia, of peaceful demonstrators marking the beginning of the violent phase of the Russian Revolution of 1905. The Chief city of police wanted to end the march so he declared open fire. Resulted in Nicolas changeing the goverment. Was the start of a series of marches in the next couple of years.
  • World War 1

    World War 1
    There was a World War 1 because of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, and his wife by Gavrilo Princip. Other causes of the war were caused by building of pressure in Europe. This dated back in part to the unification of Germany and the changing balances of power among the European Great Powers.World War I ended up with the defeat of the Central Powers under the leadership of Germany.

    Czar Nicholas II, ruler of Russia since 1894, is forced to abdicate the throne by the Petrograd insurgents, and a provincial government is installed in his place.In March 1917, The army garrison at Petrograd joined striking workers in demanding socialist reforms, and Czar Nicholas II was forced to abdicate. Nicholas and his family were first held at the Czarskoye Selo palace, then in the Yekaterinburg palace near Tobolsk. After a secret meeting, a death sentence was passed on the imperial family
  • March Reveloution

    the first stage of the Russian Revolution of 1917, in which the monarchy was overthrown and replaced by the Provisional Government.This government, intended as an interim stage in the creation of a permanent democratic-parliamentary polity for Russia, was in turn overthrown by the Bolsheviks in October (November, new style) of the same year. More than 300 years of Romanov rule came to an end as a result.
