Great Northern War
Lasted from 1700-1721 and took place in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Poland, Lithuania and Saxony. By 1707, Swedish Army numbers were at 120,000, Russia had much more but could not be able to mobilize them to the front because of mass size. Sweden lost muxh land and ceased to be a world power. Russia had gained land in the Baltic and became the largest Eastern power. -

Decmbrist Revolt
Attempt to overthrow Czar Nicholas I from him taking the throne. Three Thousand soliders were led by several army officers to protest Nicholas from taking the throne. They were against9,000 soliders of the Imperial Russian Army. The rebels were defeated and several were shot. Most were sent to labor camps in Siberia and Nicholas I started to tighten on how things were in Russia. -
Czar Alexander II amancipates the serfs
After the Crimean War, Alexander II took over the throne and set to repair the economy. Serfdom was limiting the economy and the Feudalism system wasn't working. Then serfs could own land but had to pay heavy taxes. Also serfs could work in factories. -
Alexander II Assassination
The assassination took place in St. Petersburg. Took two bombs to kill him. Alexander II would release plans for constitutional monarchy, but Alexander III destroyed them after he came to power. Also, pogroms on jews started after the assasssination and suppression on civil liberites was used. Propaganda by deed which was the use from a certain incident to spark revolution within the people was started as well. -

Russia lost because of poor organization and amount of time to take to the front also because of poor weapons. -
Bloody Sunday
Father Gapon of Russian Orthodox church led 200,000 people to the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg to peacefully protest to Czar Nicholas II for reforms. Soliders outside the palace were ordered to shoot the protesters although they werent even violent. 100 people were killed with another 3,000 injured. This event would help spark the Russian Revolution and make people start to turn on the Czar. -

Russia in World War 1
Invaded Germany after Germany invaded Belgium and France, by 1915, food and fuel were on short supply, Nicholas II was on the front while his wife, Czarina Alexandria, commanded the Russian empire at home. Alexandria became very unpopular throughout the war. By March 1917, workers protests had begun, Russia exited the war from Nicholas abdicating the throne and the Russian Revolution in 1917. -

Czar Nicholas II could not hold a powerful grip in the government during the war. During the March revolution, Nicholas started to lose power in the government due to political unrest, he finally abdicated the throne to stop violence
