  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    One of the people involved in this event was Martin Van Buren. During this event, they tried to solve the problems from the North and South. But it didn't work out so well and ended up causing more problems with the new added land from the Mexicon/American war. This event occurred in the Mexican Cession. The reason it occurred was because the North and South were disagreeing about slavery. The impact of this event was that it balanced the slavery and anit slavery states.
  • Wilmot Proviso

    Wilmot Proviso
    David Wilmot was really the only person that was involved in it. What happened was David said that they should ban slavery in all Mexican Cession territories, but it didn't end up going through. It happened in the House and the Senate. The reason it happened was because they didn’t want slavery in those parts, but it was “free soil”. It didn't really impact us that much because it didn't go through.
  • Compromise of 1850

    People involved were Stephen A. Douglas, Henry Clay, Zachary Taylor, Daniel Webster, and John C.Calhoun.it made 5 bills that made California a free state, the states of Utah and New Mexico could decide if they would not have slaves by voting, and Texas gave their “claims” to New Mexico for $10m.In the north and south of the U.S.The reason was because there were problems with the north and south so they made both happy.The impact was that It solved some of the problems with slavery disagreements.
  • Fugitive Slave Act

    Fugitive Slave Act
    It involves slaves, citizens from the north, and Senator Calhoun. it dealt with the capture of runaway slave and they needed to be returned to their owners.Happened in Kentucky. Reasoning is because too many slaves were escaping and they needed to get a law set to make sure all escaped slaves got back to their owners. Impact was It caused a protest for the North that ended out being violent. It was about having slavery in general, it was about the south having slavery.
  • Uncle Tom's Cabin

    Uncle Tom's Cabin
    People involved Harriet Beecher Stowe, Eliza. Eliza found out her son was being sold, so she goes through Ohio and canada as an escaped slave. Happened in Shelby Plantation in Kentucky. Reason why because she wanted to put the actual truth about slavery out. Impact on history is they said that it"helped lay the groundwork for the Civil War".

    People involved were John Brown, Charles Summer, Stephen A. Douglas, Preston Brooks, and Franklin Pierce. Kansas and Nebraska had to vote and figure out if they wanted slavery or not. Took place in Kansas and Nebraska. Reason was because they needed to decide if they wanted to be a free state or a slave state. Impact was Kansas became a free state.
  • Dred Scott Case

    Dred Scott Case
    People involved were the court and Dred Scott. He tried to sue but he can’t because he is not considered an actual person. Happened in Missouri. Reason was he wanted to make slaves and citizens equal. Didn’t really have and impact other than to stick up for slaves.
  • Lincoln Douglas Debate

    Lincoln Douglas Debate
    People involved were Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. What happened was They had a debate where Douglass wanted to states to choose if they wanted to be a free state for slave state but Lincoln said that there shouldn’t be slaves at all. Happened in Illinois. the reason was because didn’t agree on how slavery should be in the united states.the impact was 2 years later they were rivals for presidency and Lincoln won and became president.
  • John Brown’s Raid

     John Brown’s Raid
    People involved were John Brown, Israel Greene, and Robert E. Lee. What happened in the event was John Brown’s party didn’t make it through due to the U.S. Marines led by Israel Greene. It happened in Virginia. the reason was He was trying trying to take over the arsenal so the slaves could revolt. The impact in history was that they basically said it was practice for the civil war.
  • Lincoln’s Election of 1860

    People involved were just Abraham Lincoln. What happened was Abraham got elected to be president and won. Happened in Northern United States. The reason was because he wanted an end to slavery and in order to do that, it would be easier if he became president. The impact was that he basically ended the civil war.

    People involved were the south basically. what happened was the south tried to separate from the north. It happened in the whole U.S. the reason was because the north and south disagreed on slavery and currency. The impact was they ended up staying united.
