    Congress reached the Missouri Compromise because after 1803 Louisiana Purchase congress set up a policy, Missouri sparked a bitter national debate.   • Nat Turner’s Rebellion

    Nat Turner’s Rebellion
    A slave who named Nat Turner incited an uprising in August of 1831. He killed around sixty white people with about seventy cohorts. Solders stopped them, but small scale slave uprising were still fairly common in the American south. Enter Link text

    Dred Scott v. Sanford
    Dred Scott was a Virginia slave who tried to sue for his freedom in court, but the justices found he was a piece of property that had none of the legal rights. This made the federal goverment's authority to regulate the institution much more ambigous

  • The Battle of Fort Sumter

    The Battle of Fort Sumter
    On April 12, 1861, Confederate warships turned back the supply convoy to Fort Sumter and opened a 34-hour bombardment on the stronghold. The garrison surrendered on April 14.
