    Missouri Compromise
    The Missouri Compromise was an agreement that the territory of Missouri was admitted as a slave state while the territory of Maine was admitted as a free state.And the boundaries of slavery were limited to the same latitude as the southern boundary of Missouri 36'30 north latitude.This lead to the Civil War because North and South were arguing about whether the territory would allow slavery.
  • Nat Turner's Rebellion

    Nat Turner's Rebellion
    Nat Turner a slave started an uprising that spread through several plantations in South Virginia and killed 60 white people.This lead to the Civil War because the Virginia lawmakers decreased the rights of slaves and free black people and education was not allowed.
  • Treaty of Hidalgo

    Treaty of Hidalgo
    This treaty ended the Mexican War signed by the U.S. and Mexico.The Treaty of Hidalgo added 525,000 square miles to the U.S. territory including the area that would become Texas,California,Nevada,Utah,New Mexico and Arizona and some parts of Colorado and Wyoming.This lead to the Civil War because after the U.S. gained land from Mexico the U.S. were deciding on which states would be free or slave and this lead to arguments between South and North and decided it was up to popular sovereignty.

    The Fugitive slave law allowed slave hunters to return runaway slaves from other states back to their owners and those who did not would pay a fine.This lead to the Civil War because it offended Northerners who did not support slavery and gave slave owners more power.And also caused the increase of the Underground Railroad activity which meant that more slaves were running away.

    The Underground Railroad was a secret network of routes and safe houses used by Black slaves to escape to free states and Canada with the help of Abolitionists.This lead to the Civil War because it showed the North who didn't want to end slavery and to show how horrible slavery really was.And it also caused for some slaves rights to be taken away.

    Harrier Beecher Stowe wrote the novel Uncle Tom's Cabin which was about Uncle Tom's suffering story.This lead to the Civil War because it opened the eyes of the Northerners towards the horrors of slavery while the Southerners protested against it.And because it was really touching to so many people it caused people to support the end of slavery.

    Kansas and Nebraska were given the choice to decide for themselves using popular sovereignty whether they wanted to be a free or a slave state.This lead to the Civil War because when Stephen A.Douglas passed a bill to organize the territory of Nebraska and Kansas it got rid of the Missouri Compromise of 1820 and it made the opponents of slavery angry.

    John Brown's raid on the federal arsenal at Harper's Ferry
    John Brown an abolitionist involved in an anti-slavery violence in Harper's Ferry he and his 17 followers including 5 black members broke into a Virginia federal arsenal and took guns.They killed 7 people including 1 free black slave.This lead to the Civil War because it made black slaves rise up and also prepared the Southerners for future raids.
  • Abraham Lincoln Election

    Abraham Lincoln was elected President in the 1860 Election.His election lead to the Civil War because Lincoln was on the Republican party side and thought the South was getting more powerful and because he said that any states joining the Union could not be slave states which would unbalance the equality of 15 free states and 15 slave states.
