Period: to
French-Indian War
In this war, the French and Indians fought against the British and the Colonists over land. After it was over, Britan had won but had lost a lot of money. To get more money, Britan started taxing the Colonists, but they stopped. -
Proclamation of 1763
After the war was over, the Indians (not the french) kept fighting, so Britan passed the Proclamation of 1763. This kept the Colonists from moving any farther west of the Appalachian Mountains, so that the French and Indians would not have to fight over land again. Of course, the Colonists got mad. -
The Stamp Act
To raise money, Britan made a new act called The Stamp Act. It taxed anything paper. The colonists did not get to say if they allowed it or not. The Stamp Act was taken away on March 18, 1766, except for the tea tax. -
The Quarting Act
Because of the Proclamation of 1763, many Colonists had started to protest. So Britan passed The Quarting Act, letting soldiers stay in Colonist homes. Colonists also had to give food to the soldiers. -
The Boston Massacre
On March 5, 1770, a colonist started being mean to a british soldier, and soon more colonists joined. The soldier called for reinforcements, and they started to load their guns. The commander said not to shoot, but somebody thought he heard the command to fire. After it was over, 5 colonists had died, with 6 more hurt. -
The Boston Tea Party
Because of the tea tax, colonists were still protesting. Then, in Boston harbor, colonists dressed as indians, got on British ships and dumped all the tea, but nothing else, into the harbor! (when the british heard about this they closed the Boston harbor) -
First Continental Congress
From September 5 to October 26, a group of colonists from all the colonies but Georgia sent people to talk in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When they finished, they decided to not to buy ANYTHING from Britan. Of course, they were not inside the building the whole time.
