The French and Indian War End
The French and Indian War was a seven-year war between England and the American colonies, aganist the French and some of the Indians in North America. The war officially ended on February 10, 1763 with the signing of the Treaty of Paris. France ceded its holdings on North America. -
The Royal Proclamation
A Proclamination issued by King Geroge III that forbade settlers from settling near the Appalachian Moutains without pledge of sercurity from the Native Americans. -
The Sugar Act is Passed
A law that limit the struggling of sugar and molasses in the colonies by reducing the previous tax rate. It added several products such as hides, skins, and potash. The purpose of this Act was to crack down colonial trade with countries other than Britian. -
The Currency Act
Parliament passed the act which effectively assumed control of the colonial currency system. The act prohibited the issue of any bills and the reissue of existing currency. -
The Quartering Act
This act requires colonists let British troops stay in their homes and supply them with food. Later a new act was issued after some colonists spoke out against the act. This new act allowed for soldiers to be housed in barracks instead of homes. -
Sons of Liberty
An underground organization opposed to the Stamp Act. The members used violence to force all the British stamp collectors to resign. -
Stamp Act Congress
The Act was passed by the British Parliament and was the first direct tax to be levied on the American colonies. -
The Townshend Acts
This was a series of laws introduced by Charles Townshend. It placed laws on new taxes for items like glass, led, paints, paper, and tea imported. -
The Boston Massacre
The British had stationed troops to Boston. It was a fight between a patriot mob and British troops. The patriot mob began throwing snowballs and stones which lead to five colonists dying. -
The Tea Act
The act was passes by the Parilament. It was designed to prop up the East India Company. The British attempted to regain control of the tea trade in America. -
The Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party took place when a group of Massachusetts Patriots disguised as Mohawk Indians seized 342 chests of tea in a midnight raid on three tea ships and threw them into the Boston harbor. -
The Declaration of Independence
A document largely written by Thoms Jefferson. It declared the thirteen colonies independent from Britain. It laid out the principles for which the Revoluntionary War was fought.
