    The French and Indian War Begins
    This was a war fought between the colonists and the British Army against the French and the Indians. The war started mainly because of disagreement over the control of the fork at the Allegheny and Monogahela Rivers. This location is present day Pittsburg, Pennssylvania.

    The war officially ended when the Treaty of Paris was signed on February 15, 1763. The British and the French negotiated ownership of different parts of North America.
  • The Sugar Act Signed by Parliament of Great Britian

    The Sugar Act Signed by Parliament of Great Britian
    This act was ended by the British Parliment. It was enacted to help pay for the costs of defending and protecting the Colinists as a result of the French and Indian War. This was unpopular and was repealed in 1776 and replaced by the Revenue Act of 1766.

    This was a direct tax on the Colonies to help pay for the French and Indian War. It required that many printed materials be on stamped paper in London. The materials included legal documents, newpapers and magazines. This was not popular in the Colonies. It was repealed on Februsry 21, 1766.
  • The Townsend Acts

    The Townsend Acts
    These were a series of Tax Acts named after Charles Townshend who suggested the program. The acts were to pay for salaries of governors and judges to be seperated from Colonial rule. This was also to establish that parliment could tax the colonies. Parts of the acts were replealed on March 5, 1770, the same day of the Boston Massacre.

    The Boston Massacre
    This happened when British Army soldiers killed five male civilians and injured six others. A mob of Colonists surrounded a British Sentry and harassed him verbally. Eight soldiers came to his aid and were also verbally abused and had objects thrown at them. They fired upon the crowd without orders. The eight soldiers were tried, six if them were acquitted and two of them were charged with manslaughter.

    This was a non violent political protest by the Sons of Liberty. They disguised themselves as American Indians and destroyed the entire inventory of tea carried by the East Indian Company. The tea had a tax imposed on it which was not authorized by the Colonists.
  • First Continental Congress Meets

    First Continental Congress Meets
    This was a convention of delegates from twelve colonies ,Georgia was not present. They met at Carpenters Hall in Philidelphia, Pennsylvania. The Congress met to consider options such as boycotts of trades with Britian due to the Tax Acts imposed on them.
