  • Albany Congress

    The British colonies called a meeting of colonial leaders to agree on cooperating to defend themselves in Albany,New York. They also hoped to form an alliance with the Iroquios tribes,

    French and Indian War

    The French and the Native Americans fought the British, Iroquios, and the colonists over control of the Ohio River Valley. British win , France lost their entire empire.
  • Treaty of Paris

    In Paris,France, the French and the British signed a treaty called The Treaty of Paris because they could no longer defend themselves from other colonies and because they lost a lot of their land to other colonies.

    Pontiac's War

    The leader of the Ottawa nation, Pontiac, formed an alliance with western Native Americans. Then, Pontiac and his allies attacked British forts and settelments in the area. The British defeated Pontiac and his men, about 2,000 backcountry setelers were killed, and the British killed Native Americans that did not fight back.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Britain wanted to avoid conflict with the Native Americans. This document banned settelment west of the line drawn by the Appalachian Mountains, this forced all of the settelers to move east of that line. This was widely ignored and was impossible to inforce.
  • Sugar Act

    The British wanted to impose taxes on the colonists so they passed the sugar act witch put taxes on molasses. colonists protested.
  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act required that all colonists buy special tax stamps for many products and activities including newspaper, wills, licenses, and contracts. Colonists protested, but Virginias House of Burgesses passed many laws that they had the right to tax then anyway. Other colonial assemblies organized a boycott on British goods and it spread throughout the colonies, and it worked, they repealed the Stamp Act.
  • Quartering Act

    A year later, parliament passed the Quartering Act to save money. To enforce the Proclamation of 1763, Britain kept about 10,000 troops in the colonies. This also required colonists to house British troops and provide them with their daily needs. The colonists protested and said that Parliament was violating their rights.
  • Boston Massacar

    In Boston, an angry crowd of workers and sailors surrounded a small group of British troops. They yelled and threw rocks and snowballs at them. Then shots were fired, killing 5 and wounding 6. John Adams, a well known Massachusetts lawyer defended the British troops in court. Only 2 of the troops were convicted, and their punishment was having their thumbs branded.
  • Tea Act

    The British parliament passed the Tea Act to help the British East Indies company, one of the most important companies in Britain It lowered the prices of tea by allowing the East India Company to ship tea directly to the colonies. Many colonial leaders argued that eventhe price was lowered, that they still had to pay the tax on tea.
