No settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains.Colonist continued to most west anyway. -
Sugar Act
Halved the duty on foreign made molasses. Placed duties on certain imports. Strengthened law enforcement on smuggling. Colonist disagreed with the British more and more on how they should be taxed. -
Quatering Act
Authorized British commanders to house soldiers in vacant and private homes. Colonists could not do anything about it. -
Stamp Act
Required colonist to purchase special paper for every legal document. Colonist who disobeyed were tried in the vice-admiralty court, were convictions were probable. -
Repeal of Stamp Act
Parliaments full right to make laws " to bind the colonies and people of America. Colonists were forced to obey all laws. -
Townshed Act/Duties
Indirect taxes, or duties levied on imported materials. Also imposed a three penny tax on tea. Colonist reacted in rage and well organized resistance. -
Boston Massacre
Competition for jobs between colonist and poorly paid soldiers. Colonist worked harder for the jobs or fought someone for the job. -
Tea Act
Allowed companies to sell tea to colonist free of tax. When the colonial tea sellers had to pay tax. The colonist were happy they got the tea cheaper. -
Intolerable Acts
Shut down all Boston ports cause colonist wouldn't pay for damaged goods. Colonist continued to not to pay for damaged goods. -
Lexington and Concord
A Ambush to seize and destroy all munitions they found. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
Gage struck militiamen who dug on breed's hill. Colonist held there fire until the last minute....they didn't give up they kept fighting. -
Second Continental Congress
A convention of delegates from the thirteen colonies that started meeting in Philly, that declared American Revolutionary War had begun.
