Proclamation of 1763
This prohibited colonists living west of the Appalachian Mountains; Native American land. The british believed it would keep peace and it will be easier to control the colonies. The king sent 10,000 soldiers to enforce this.The colonists were not happy about this and the British trying to rule them. -

Events leading to America Independence

Sugar Act
This put a tax on molasses, coffee, and sugar. This made colonists mad because they weren't getting a say in what they were being taxed on. "No Taxation Without Representation" -
Stamp Act passed
This taxed almost all printed materials. Colonist were mad because they wanted only their own assemblies to be able to tax them. -
Son and Daughters of Liberty
The colonists were getting more and more mad with Britain so they created these two groups to rebel againist them. They would protest and sometimes get violent about things. -
Declaratory Act
This stated that Great Britain had full rights to tax and govern the colonies as it saw fit, but it also repealed the Stamp Act -
Townshend Act
This act was created by Charles Townshend that placed indirect taxes tea, glass, paper, paint, and lead. This was another act making the colonists outraged. This was the main component of the Boston Massacre -
British troops come to Boston
The British troops try to maintain Boston and keep the Townshend Act in place. Many street riots have been going on and this led to the Boston Massacre. -
Boston Massacre
The colonists were yellling at the British troop and one of them got knocked down, so they started to fire. Six people were killed. -
Tea Act
After the Boston massacre Britain decided to repeal all of the Townshend Act except the tax on tea. -
Boston Tea Party
The Tea Act removed taxes on tea, but not all so the colonist were still mad. They dumped tons of tea into the harbor to show that they are not going to enforce these taxes. -
Intolerable Acts/Coercive Acts
This is Britain's response to the Boston Tea Party. It shut down Boston Harbor until all the taxes on the tea dumped into the harbor were paid for.This was the Bosotn Port Act. It also included acts such as Massachusetts Government Act, Quartering Act, Impartial Administration of Justice Act, and the Quebec Act. -
First Continental Congress
12 out of 13 colonies attened a metting in Philadelphia to challenge British control. The delegates decided to call themself the Continental Congress. -
Battles at Lexington and Concord
General Gage found out the the colonies were hiding ammo at Concord and organized a surprise attack on Concord. Revere and Dawes found out and spread the word to the colonists. They were on their way to Concord when they had a small break at Lexington which they overcame quickly. Britain knew that the colonists were ready to fight for their rights. -
Second Continental Congress
All members of the First Continental Congress met again in Philadelphia, but members from all colonies were represented this time. The Declaration of Independence was created because of this meeting. -
Thomas Paine's "Common Sense"
This article made a huge impact across all of the colonies because he wrote information like that a little country in size (Britain) shouldn't be running a much larger land mass (the colonies). This influenced some of the information in the Declaration of Independence. -
