Events During My Time Abroad

  • Arrive In Prague

    Arrive In Prague
Took an overnight flight from New York City to beautiful Prague!! It was a totally new experience for me, I had never been to Europe alone. I came here knowing no one and not having any real expectations of the culture or people I would meet. All of this probably made my semester even better.
  • Day Trip To Kutna Hora

    Day Trip To Kutna Hora
Saw the Bone Church, and beautiful views at Kutna Hora. It was a really nice day out, the sun was shining. It was during the first couple weeks of the program. We saw a cathedral, learned about the vineyards there, and took photos of the awesome views.
  • La Boheme Opera

    La Boheme Opera
Saw the Opera La Boheme. It was a very lovely production. It reminded me a bit of the broadway show Rent, but in an Opera form. I guess that is what Rent is based upon.
  • Beginning of Classes

    Beginning of Classes
This was the first day of CIEE classes. Although we had been taking Czech intensive classes for the past two weeks, I was a little nervous to start classes. Again, I didn't really know what to expect. All of my classes ended up being fine. The CIEE ones I was in I had a couple of friends in each of them. The class at Charles University though, I was the only American in the class room with all other students being Erasmus from various countries, which ended up being a great learning experience.

  • Oktoberfest

    Oktoberfest
Took a weekend trip to Munich, Germany for the famous Oktoberfest! There was obviously a lot of beer drinking, and we camped for the weekend at a camp site, which, looking back on was a lot of fun. I don't think I would ever choose that option again though. It was very cold and rainy most of the weekend, but we all still had a great time!
  • Day Trip to Trebic

    Day Trip to Trebic
This photo is of me and Julia Ross in a synogogue. We took a day trip to Trebic, the old Jewish ghetto in Czech Republic. This is where the largest Jewish cemetary is, as well as the St. Procopious Basilica. We also visited this woman's house/clay gallery and workshop where she showed us this giant well that most rich people used to have in their homes. We learned about gollums and how the Jews lived there before the holocaust.
  • Weekend in Amsterdam 1

    Weekend in Amsterdam 1
I went with my friend Julia to Amsterdam for the weekend. This is the first of two times I would be in Amsterdam for the semester. We went to the Anne Frank House, Van Gogh Museum, and the big I AMSTERDAM sign. We had a great weekend filled with live music, delicious food, and a ton of walking around. It also is a lot more difficult to climb up onto those letters than it looks. HAH!
  • Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival

    Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival
Being in the communications program, we had to take a trip to Jihlava for the International Documentary Film Festival. It ended up being a really wonderful weekend. We saw some really interesting films that were definitely conversation provoking. We saw live music the first night we were there are a soul club. It was amazing. On the way home we also stopped at a beer brewery and had a private tour.
  • Fall Break Part 1: Barcelona

    Fall Break Part 1: Barcelona
I went with a bunch of people to Barcelona for fall break. It was really an incredible trip. I was with a group of ladies that I stayed with and we went to Picasso museum, saw the beautiful beaches, and explored the city. We also went on a hike one afternoon and found this beautiful look out point. I loved it there but it was much too touristy and expensive.
  • Fall Break Part 2: Alicante

    Fall Break Part 2: Alicante
Our next and last stop of fall break was Alicante, Spain, which is a city on the same coast as Barcelona but further south. We stayed in a really great hostel and met up with some friends studying abroad there. We also went on a hike to try and find the castle there, but instead found this awesome lookout point. It was so beautiful there. That is a place I would love to return to. I had an incredible time while I was there and went with some really amazing people.
  • Back To Amsterdam- With my Family

Back To Amsterdam- With my Family

It was amazing being able to meet them there, we stayed at a beautiful hotel and saw a lot of sites. We went to the Rijks Museum, Anne Frank House, Van Gogh Museum, and a walking tour around the city. We also went on a boat cruise which was a great way to see the city,

    Family Comes To Prague
My family and I went back to Prague for the week. I got to show them around where I live, where I go to classes and all over Prague. We went to the Lennon Wall, Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, and the old Jewish Quarter. They were able to go to Terezin on one of the days that I had class. My brother and sister are old enough so I was able to take them out with me one of the nights.
  • Budapest With Family

    Budapest With Family
We Spent Thanksgiving day and that weekend in Budapest. It was such a beautiful city. We did one day on each side of the river, one day in Buda, one in Pest. We saw SO many sites and museums it's hard to remember all of them. There were a lot of laughs and we saw a really beautiful sunset the first night. I wish I had more time to spend there, it really was an incredible place. The christmas markets were up as well which were obviously beautiful.
  • Trip to Petrin

    Trip to Petrin
Julia and I went to Petrin hill because neither of us had been there yet. It was a beautiful sight, especially in the snow. We went up to the top of the tower, and took a lot of photographs. We also walked around the area but it was so cold and icy that we couldn't hike up or down it which was a little bit upsetting. I'm still glad I got to go up there and see it.
  • Studying for Finals

    Studying for Finals
Spent this weekend studying and preparing for Finals. This is a photo of me in Globe Cafe drinking my first iced coffee of the whole semester. Not gonna lie, studying and preparing for exams is definitely not a fun way to end the semester.
  • Leave Prague for Tel Aviv

    Leave Prague for Tel Aviv
As I said, studying and preparing for finals is not a fun way to end the semester, so I decided to take a couple days and go to Tel Aviv before heading back to the states. My friends sister lives there and so I am going to visit the two of them for a few days. I am so excited!
  • Go Back To America

    Go Back To America
Although I am excited to be back in New York for Christmas and to see my family, I will miss Prague very much. I had a wonderful semester here and traveling around Europe. There are so many lessons I've learned here that I will take back with me and use through my life. I'm definitely going to miss it here!
