  • The Elevator Break

    Elisha Otis is an american inventor who lived in Crystal Palace, NY. His most famous invention was the Elevator Brake on April 3, 1852. He invented it to keep people safe from any accident. To do this task he used a ratchet on a spring to catch the elevator in the event of an accident (like a broken cable).
  • Coca Cola

    John Pemberton invented Coca Cola on May 8th, 1886 in Atlanta, Georgia When Atlanta banned alcohol consumption in 1885, Pemberton had to change the formula of his French Wine of Coca, omitting the French wine. He put in caffeine, sugar, citric acid, and fruit oils (although the formula is a closely-guarded secret).
  • Thermoset Plastic

    Leo Baekeland the inventor of Thermoset Plastic on 1893 in Yorkers, New York. This plastic does not change its shape after being mixed and heated. Bakelite plastic is made from carbolic acid (phenol) and formaldehyde, which are mixed, heated, and then either molded or extruded into the desired shape.
  • Cotton Candy

    William Morrison and John C. Wharton. Where both candy men in 1897. Nashville, Tennessee. They both invented a device that heated sugar in a spinning bowl that had tiny holes in it. It formed a treat that they originally called "Fairy Floss." As the bowl spun around, the caramelized sugar was forced through the tiny holes, making feathery candy that melts in the mouth and cotton candy was made.
