Operation Barbarossa
Hitler wanted to take all agriculture, land, and many oil fields, so he broke the German-Soviet Non-Aggression pact. Germany invaded the Soviet Union and took over many groups of land and lots prisoners. Russia fought back and was willing to sacrifice a lot in order to stop the fascist leaders from taking over. Stalin did his best to stop Hitler. The German Army still went forward and did what they could and gained a lot but the Soviets were too good and destroyed Hitler’s army. -

Operation Overlord
The Allies in the West of World War II did the most ambitious invasion in history when they invaded Normandy. Forces came from US, Britain, Canada, & Free France. Weeks after the invasion, other countries joined & provided air & naval support. They landed on 5 different beaches and did their best but didn’t reach the goal on the first day. They gained lots of land when they captured the Cherbourg port, & Caen city. German forces failed by their counterattack & after a couple days retreated. -
Yalta Conference
The Yalta Conference was a meeting with the leaders of the US (Roosevelt), UK (Churchill), and the Soviet Union (Stalin). The conference took place in a Palace near Yalta. The meeting was to discuss how the nations would be after the war. When the Cold War came, Yalta was still controversial. It’s was the second of three conferences during the war, between these 3 countries. The Yalta conference was a very important and crucial turning point during the Cold War.
