Rebuilding of the German Army
Hitler starts a rebuilding of the German army on his first "Saturady Suprises". He does this by doing what he usually does in international affairs and complains about the harshness of the Treaty of Versailles. In the treaty it crushed the German army and he said that these were defensive measures. Hitler then has another suprise when he armed the Rhineland. This exposed many of the western European countries. Nobody who wrote the treaty to unarm the area opposed it in fear of another war. -
Invasion of Austria
The invasion of Austria was forseen for over a month when Hitler called Austrian Prime Minister Kurt von Schuschnigg to a secret meeting though he disagreed. Schuschnigg was given three days to make up his mind, which he used to try to make a national election to have the country decide for itself. This was followed by a threat by Hitler he as going to invade, which he did on March 11 and was supported by 99.7% of the country. Noboby came to the countries defense. -
The Meeting for Chechoslovakia
After Hitler takes Austria he turned to the land that used be controlled by Germany called Sudetenland and Chechoslovakia as a whole.Unlike Austria the Chech's did not want to lose their freedom and looked for help from France and Russia. The Prime Minster of France tried to applease Hitler in order to avoid another war, but all compromises with Hitler failed. Then Benito Mussolini invited German, French, and British leaders to a meeting in Munich and choose to give in to Hitler's demands. -
Hitler Invades Poland
Hitler invades Poland after responding to a fake attack on the German border. Not many people liked hearing this news, even Germans. Soon after the start of the invasion the soldiers start to do in Poland what they did in Germany, by torturing Jews. -
Surrender of Poland
Poland surrendered in the fall of 1939. This created havoc for Polands Jewish population. Hitler tried to crush the Jews so much by torture that a German officer told Hans Frank, the commander of Poland that their men were disturbed by what was happening -
The Fall of Western Europe
By the end of June, 1940 Hitler had conquered Belgium, France, Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, and Luxembourg, The only country left in Europe is Great Britian who under newly elected Prime Minister Wnstin Churhill is now truly at war with Germany and pladged to defeat them. In each of the countries he had took over he had established a new government. Since each country was set up by Hitler, he had them follow the same anti-semitism as in Germany. -
Invasion of Russia
When Hitler ordered the invasion of Russia it was still an ally of Germany. First he took the southern section which the Jewish population there thought they were fine until the shooting and killing of 700,000 Jews. Hitler thought that the citizens and soldiers of Russia would turn on their country, but what happened was the opposite. -
United States Enters the War
The bombing of Pearl Harbor made America at war with Japan not Germany until Hitler decided to ally with Japan against the U.S. This caused the 3 nations at war with Germany, the United States, Great Britian, and Russia to form an alliance. Even though they were all very different they were allied under the idea of winning the war.
