The Second Crusade Begins
The Second Crusade was from 1147 to 1149, during which the Turks managed to recapture Edessa. Edessa is a Crusader Kingdom in what is now southeast Turkey. It is also started to recapture territory recently lost to Muslim forces, but in the end only a few Greek islands are actually taken. -

German Crusaders under Conrad III stopped at Dorylaeum to rest and are destroyed by Saracens. They was so much treasure that was captured that the market price of precious metals throughout the Muslim world drops. -

The Third Crusade begins
The Third Crusade lasted from 1187-1192. The Muslims lead a successful campaign against the Crusaders such as at The Battle of Hattin where a large Crusader army was demolished, then later at Jerusalem. Pope Gregory VIII called for another large-scale Crusade to retake the Holy Land. -
