Jamestown grows
The first African Americans arrived in Jamestown. Even more laborers were needed. Those who could not afford a passage to America were encouraged to become indentured servants. -

Merchants organized the Virginia Company of London and the Virginia Company. King James, the first of England, granted charters to both companies in 1606. -
