September 9, 2005: Anatomy vs. Shame & Doubt
Dany (age 3) woke up wetting the bed and feeling ashamed. Dany's mother comforted him, telling him that mistakes happen and that it would be okay. In this stage independence, self-control and, choice-making is introduced. If the caregiver is supportive and encouraging it can provide the child with confidence but if there is criticism and little room for mistakes it could leave the child with shame and doubt about their abilities. -
August 6, 2015 Identity vs. Role Confusion
Dany (age 13) joined the school band to test his musical abilities. The crisis in this stage is to discover what your role is in your community and who you are. If the individual is unable to find for example activities that support their interests they may experience role confusion. -
July 4, 2025 Intimacy vs. Isolation
Dany (age 23) meets the love of his life and decides to propose to her so they can start a family and build a life together. The crisis in this stage is to decide whether or not to be vulnerable and enter into an intimate relationship. If the individual fails to do so they could end up isolated and alone.
