    In Erikson's first stage, trust versus mistrust, the crisis is to craft one's worldview as either one that is inviting and fruitful (trust) or one that is untrustworthy and laden with deceit.

    In Erikson's fourth stage, industry versus inferiority, the crisis is between achieving or struggling to begin to grasp the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in their respective cultures. Those who fall behind feel inferior, while those who grasp the necessary skills feel industrious.
