Erikson Timeline

  • Stage 6

A young couple, Wanda and Gregory are newly married. They are 19 and 21, respectively. Each are within the sixth stage of Erkisons psychosocial development. During this period, there is a crisis of choosing intimacy or isolation. Both Wanda and Gregory have chosen to share their lives with one another and commit to a long term relationship. They have found success in this stage by choosing intimacy rather than staying in isolation and loneliness.
  • Stage 7

Wanda (40 years old) and Gregory (42 years old) now have three children. They are great parents but know that they can leave the world in a better place by doing more. They volunteer to be moved by their church to a small island to help build homes and educate its inhabitants. This is the seventh stage with a crisis of choosing generativity or stagnation. The couple has found success in choosing generativity. This gave them feelings of accomplishment and knowing they were useful in this world.
  • Stage 8

Gregory (66 years old) has aged and has become quite ill. Family and friends surround him with their visits and everyone tells stories of his past. He is happy with how he has lived his life and feels there is not much he would have done differently. The eighth stage is choosing ego integrity or despair. Because Gregory had lived a life he was content with and had found success in earlier stages, he does not feel despair at the end of his life, but rather fulfilled.
