  • Basic trust versus mistrust

    Basic trust versus mistrust
Jaiden (age 2) cries because she is hungry, her mother comes over and gives her a bottle of milk which makes Jaiden happy. The first stage, basic trust versus mistrust, is the crisis of an infant building trustworthy and safe relationships. Once this builds it allows for infants to trust more people, but fear can cause mistrust and doubt in their environment.
  • Identity versus role confusion

    Identity versus role confusion
Jaiden (Age 15) has come out as bisexual to her religious parents. This caused them to shame her identity and push her to read religious books. Identity versus role confusion struggles between having the opportunity to find identity in oneself by confining in social roles or having others push them to follow a certain role or view, this can cause confusion and an identity crisis.
  • Generatively versus stagnation

    Generatively versus stagnation
Jaiden (age 40) has built a community program where LGBTQ adolescents have a safe space to be open about their identity and build friendships with others. Generativity versus stagnation is open between being a leading role model for the next generation (generatively) or unresolved conflict can lead to feeling unproductive or having no sense of purpose (stagnation).
