  • Identity vs. Confusion

    Identity vs. Confusion
    When Perry was a young teen, he developed an addiction and struggled to maintain sobriety. Perry's continuing advocacy for addiction recovery can be viewed as a reflection of an evolving identity. In Erikson's stage Identity vs. Confusion, adolescents explore their independence. They are battling the main question of, "who am I?" while trying to maintain a sense of uniqueness and a sense of sameness with their community. They may feel confused or disappointed about their place in life.
  • Industry vs. Inferiority.

    Industry vs. Inferiority.
    Perry's rise to fame can be reflection of his successful navigation of the industry stage. By being successful in his career, he built a sense of industry and self confidence. This contributes to a positive self image. In this stage of Industry vs. Inferiority, the main question is, "how can I be good?", people want to appear competent to others. They will have a better self image, more confidence in their abilities, and better mental health.
  • Generativity vs. Stagnation

    Generativity vs. Stagnation
    Perry's efforts raising awareness about mental health and his own struggles with anxiety and depression. This can be viewed as Generativity vs. Stagnation. He contributes to society but promoting an understanding. He opened the Perry House for others struggling. During this stage, the main question is, "how can I contribute to the world?" Characteristics include making commitments to others, mentoring, and contributing to the next generation, compared to being self centered or stagnant.
