Stage 2: Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt
Nathan (age 3) feels comfortable picking out his own clothes and deciding on what he wants to eat because his parents encourage and praise him for it. At this stage, children can be given opportunities to become more independent, but still with parental guidance. -
Stage 6: Intimacy vs. Isolation
Nathan (age 22) marries his partner of 5 years after they both graduated from college and felt like they were ready to start a life and family together. This is the stage in life where people begin either form long-lasting, meaningful relationships or struggle alone. -
Stage 7: Generativity vs. Stagnation
Nathan (age 42) and his wife prepare their youngest and last child for her first day of kindergarten. At this stage, people have the choice to contribute to society by nurturing and finding ways to benefit the newer generation.
