Settlers began moving west, which caused an boost in the Ranching & Cattle Industry. Railroads were expanded, and mining activity increased. -

Cities began growing due to Industrialization. Monopolies around certain industries were formed, causing some businesses to gain too much power -
U.S. Imperialism
The U.S. began expanding overseas, and our victory in the Spanish-American War gained more territory. Hawaii was also annexed which further added to our overseas territories. -
Progressive Era
Concepts like Consumer Protection & Environmental Conservation began to be implemented. Monopolies were regulated by the government to keep them in check. Suffragists got the 19th amendment passed which granted women the right to vote. -
WWI
The U.S. entered WWI when the sinking of the Lusitania & the exposure of the Zimmerman telegram alarmed President Woodrow Wilson and the American people. After the war, the League of Nations was formed. -
Roaring 20's
The introduction of Jazz lead to a cultural boom. Prohibition was law, but people found ways around these restrictions with the creation of "speakeasies", which were hidden liquor stores or clubs. The Scopes trail caused the public to debate whether or not evolution should be taught in school. -
The Great Depression
In 1929, the stock market crashed. This caused high unemployment, as well as nationwide economic troubles. FDR's "New Deal" was written to fix these problems. -
WWII
The U.S. entered WWI when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. The war was fought in Europe & the Pacific. Adolf Hitler started the Holocaust, which wasn't chill. The war was ended when the U.S. dropped Atomic Bombs on Hiroshima & Nagasaki. -
The Cold War
After WWII, The United States felt threatened by Communism and by the Soviet Union, and attempted a strategy referred to as Containment, which was intended to stop the spread of Communism. The U.S. began the Space Race with the Soviet Union, while simultaneously in an Arms Race with them. This lead to a "Silent War" between the countries, known as the "Cold War". -
Civil Rights Movement
The "Brown vs. Board of Education" case ended legal segregation in schools. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech, and Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat. -
Vietnam War
President Lyndon B. Johnson & The U.S. supported South Vietnam against North Vietnam. The U.S. began drafting Soldiers to fight in Vietnam, which helped the Antiwar Movement gain supporters. -
Late 20th Century
The Cold war was ended. An Oil Crisis and Inflation caused prices to rise. A new Technological Revolution lead to the creation of new technologies and the improvement of old ones. -
U.S. in the 21st Century
The 9/11 Terrorist Attacks started our "War on Terror". Hurricane Katrina devastated many places in the U.S.. An Economic Recession hit in 2008 which hurt the American Economy. Barack Obama was Elected as President.
