HARLEM RENAISSANCE BEGINS
The Harlem Renissance or "The New Negro Movement" was a cultural infuluence that occured in New York during the "Roaring 20's." Many things such as music, sports, style, and Literature were created during the Harlem Renissance. TALKING MOVIES INVENTED
The first talking movies were invented during 1923. On October 6th, 1927 Al Jolson's movie "The Jazz Singer" was the first talking movie released. This was a big deal during the "Roaring 20's" because of the silent films the people of New York were used to. "Wait a minute, wait a minute. FIRST OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES
The first Olympic Winter Games was held in Chamonix, France. At first the the Olympic Winter Games was known as Semaine Internationale des Sports d'Hiver. The Games consisted of many Winter sports such as: 4-man bobsled, Biathlon, Curling, Figure skating, Hockey, Cross country Skiing, Ski-jumping, Nordic combined skiing, Speed skating. The winter Games went on for eleven days. The first BIG winners of the Olympic Winter games were Finland and Norway. -
FLAPPER DRESSES EMERGE
Flapper dresses were all the rage during the "Roaring 20's." Charles Dana Gibson was originated the style of the flapper dresses. The dresses were often made for women with small hips and chests because the ideal look at the time was for 15 year-old girls. The changing of the economy during the "Roaring 20's" provided more opportunities for females. Many women dressed with flapper dresses as a way to represent freedom from the original expectations of women. -
HITLER PUBLISHES MEIN KAMPF
Mein Kampf was written by Adolf Hitler. Mein Kampf was a mixture of an autobiography and Hitler's political views. Hitler began his book while he was in prison, while imprisioned he came to the conclusion that his book had to be a two-volume book. The title of the book Mein Kampf is interpreted to mean "My struggle." -
A.A. MILNE PUBLISHES WINNIE THE POOH
Winnie the Pooh, is a fictional bear that was created in 1926. The name Winnie the Pooh originated from Alan Alexander Milne's son, Christopher Robin Milne; who was the theme for the character Christopher Robin. During the 1920's Winnie the Pooh was all the rage. Today, Winnie the Pooh has become one of the most successful franchises. -
BABE RUTH SETS HOME RUN RECORD
Babe Ruth was a baseball player for the New York Yankees. Ruth was known as the "Home Run Kings" because of his powerful hits. In 1927 on September 30th Babe Ruth hit his 60th home- run making it a new record. Although Lou Gehrig was up for grabs to set the record, Ruth came and stole the show. Without the record set by Babe Ruth Baseball would not have some of their best players im sure. The record was not broken until 34 years later. -
FIRST MICKEY MOUSE CARTOON
Walt Disney was the creater of the first Mickey Mouse cartoon. Mickey Mouse is known as the masoct of the Walt Disney Company. Mickey debuted in November 1928 in Steamboat Willie, which was known as one of the first sound cartoons. Without Mickey Mouse, there would be no childhood, in my opinion. Mickey is the ideal cartoon entertainment and is the most recognizable cartoons throughout the world. -
U.S. NATIONAL ANTHEM ADOPTED
Francis Scott Key wrote a poem named "Defense of Fort McHenry" that was based on the American Flag. Without intentions of a song, his brother Judge Joseph H Nicholson noticed the poem could fit the tune "The Anacreontic Song." The song then spread fast, and a music store owner first printed the song as "The Star Spangled Banner." The reason why the Star Spangled Banner is important is because without it we would have no national anthem, if so, we would have one that didnt represent us well. -
NAZI OLYMPICS IN BERLIN
Adolf Hitler's Nazi dictatorship hosted the Summer Olympics. The Nazi Olympics brought many opportunities for Hitler. Hitler showed the world, how efficient the Nazi Germany was and the Master Race. The Berlin Olympic Games also gave the Nazis an opportunity to show the world as 49 countries that were competing.
